Insects Sensory Bin

Our insects crawl on soil (black beans) and on the grass (split peas). We tried to remember names of insects we already learned before: a caterpillar, a ladybug, a butterfly, an ant and a bee. We added a dragonfly, a bumble bee, a bug and a fly. We discussed how some of the insects can fly and others crawl on the ground. Also, I tried to explain the process of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. I also told my daughter about bees, beehives and honey. Play with insects by hiding them in peas and beans. Show your child how insects can fly, crawl, eat leaves and grass.

Continue this theme by reading “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle and "Five Little Ladybugs" by Melanie Gerth.
